At Ivybrook Academy's Private Kindergarten, we understand the importance of individualized attention. Our approach focuses on small group work, allowing us to tailor our teaching to meet each student's academic needs. We recognize that every child is unique, with their own strengths, areas for growth, and preferred learning styles. In our small groups, our goal is to embrace these differences and create personalized educational plans that meet students where they are academically and socially. To achieve this, we utilize both formal and informal assessments.

During our small group sessions, our literacy lessons concentrate on building strong foundations in reading and writing that will serve our students well throughout their elementary school years. In these groups, we employ a balanced reading approach that integrates instruction with real-life reading and writing experiences. By doing so, our students learn how to apply literacy strategies and skills in meaningful ways.

Throughout these lessons, students will develop the following skills:

Vocabulary
Writing skills

To continually challenge our children, we use leveled readers and regularly assess their proficiency. As they master the skills at each level, we move them up to higher levels of difficulty.

Discovering the World Around Them

In addition to our rigorous academic curriculum, our Kindergarten program incorporates Science and Social Studies to meet state standards. These lessons are hands-on and expose students to a wide range of topics, building their background knowledge and understanding. Every week, you will receive updates on the exciting topics and explorations happening in these areas.

We are grateful for the ongoing interest in our Private Kindergarten at Ivybrook. What initially began as a response to our community's need for in-person learning has evolved into a thriving program that enhances our schools.

Math & the Montessori Approach

In our math small groups, we embrace the Montessori approach. Each of our classrooms is equipped with diverse Montessori materials that promote independent thinking and critical skills. The Montessori approach to math is highly effective because it engages children's senses through various materials, fostering learning across multiple intelligences and domains. We assess and teach mathematical awareness across several foundational categories. Our students participate in small group lessons focusing on numerical awareness, measurement and data, geometry, patterning, as well as advanced skills such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
