Our Philosophy

The Ivybrook Way

At Ivybrook Academy, we embrace a transformative approach to early childhood education, guided by the belief that every child is uniquely capable and deserving of a personalized learning experience. The Ivybrook Way reflects our commitment to nurturing each child’s academic, social, and emotional growth through a balanced, innovative curriculum that prepares them for success as lifelong learners.

A Unique Blend of Proven Philosophies

Our philosophy is rooted in the integration of two world-renowned educational approaches:

  • Reggio Emilia: Promoting collaboration, creativity, and exploration in a community-centered environment.
  • Montessori: Fostering independence, critical thinking, and hands-on learning through individualized guidance.
  • The Theory of Multiple Intelligences: Dr. Howard Gardner, a Harvard University professor, researched this educational approach. Published in 1983, it is a relatively new approach based on the idea that intelligence comes in many different forms. Since everyone’s mind is different, everyone will learn, perform, remember, and comprehend differently. By adapting the curriculum to a child’s specific needs, they will be best positioned to learn and thrive. The Theory of Multiple Intelligences disproves the “one size fits all” mentality and shows how children can excel and struggle in different subjects and skills.

Combining these proven methodologies with customized assessments creates a tailored learning path for every child, meeting them where they are and inspiring them to reach their fullest potential.

The Pillars of Our Philosophy

Child-Centered Learning

At Ivybrook, we see children as curious, capable individuals with unique strengths and interests. Our educators act as facilitators, creating opportunities for children to explore, discover, and grow at their own pace.

Individualized Curriculum

No two children are the same, and their learning experiences shouldn’t be either. Our individualized curriculum adapts to each child’s developmental needs, fostering confidence and enthusiasm for learning.

The Environment as a Teacher

We view the environment as a "third teacher," carefully designing our classrooms to inspire curiosity and support focus. Neutral colors, natural materials, and child-level displays create a calm and inviting space for learning.

Holistic Development

Our programs go beyond academics to nurture the whole child. Social-emotional growth, critical thinking, and creativity are integral to our curriculum, ensuring children are well-rounded and prepared for future success.

Family and Community Partnership

Education is a collaborative journey. We work closely with families, valuing their insights and involvement, to create a supportive community where every child thrives.
