Award Winning Curriculum

Nationally recognized for our multifaceted approach to preschool curriculum, Ivybrook Academy has emerged as a leader in the field of early childhood education.

Ivybrook Academy has emerged as a leader with an award-winning preschool curriculum

We offer a balanced curriculum which includes Collaborative Learning, Montessori tailored Individualized Learning Groups, Reggio Emilia inspired project work, and our Discovery Program. These interrelated components provide children with the tools necessary to expand their knowledge and understanding of the world in which they live.

Ivybrook Academy provides an emergent curriculum where both short and long term, in-depth investigations and explorations emerge from careful observations of the children. Topics of study and experiences are designed to reflect and support the children’s interests and needs. Educators create intentional environments that allow children to express their interests and construct knowledge. Emphasis is placed on a continuous cycle of learning and reflecting and documented by our teaching staff.

Our Approach

The Ivybrook Academy approach to learning is based upon the following set of principles, all of which are emphasized in our classrooms:

  • Children’s voices should be honored and valued

  • Customized learning opportunities are important to support children’s diverse learning styles

  • The physical environment provides a rich resource for exploration, inquiry, and thought and plays a prominent role in learning

  • Respect and collaboration are vital elements in the daily life of the school

Documentation gives value to the process, as opposed to only the product, and demonstrates to the children that their work and thinking is valued. Educators use photographs, videos, notes, observations, and the work of the students to illustrate ongoing classroom investigations and theories.

Documentation enables parents to learn about their children’s work and to feel connected to what is happening in the classroom.  It allows teachers to articulate their thinking about children’s ongoing investigations, and to determine future directions for their studies.

Documentation helps children remember their ideas and shared experiences, and to know that these are highly valued. It plays an important role in multi-dimensional assessment which not only includes documentation but portfolios and parent reports.
